Garowe, Mareeg.com: The Vetting and Conflict Resolution Committee in Somalia’s Puntland region has announced last night the new 66-member list of Members of Parliament, ahead of the presidential election on January 8, 2014.
Mr. Yusuf Abshir Adami, chairman of Puntland Vetting Committee that consists of 8 members, made the announcement during press conference at Parliament Hall in the capital Garowe.
66 of the new MPs of Puntland Parliament, some 34 MPs are new parliamentarians while the remaining 32 are returning MPs.
All the new MPs were submitted to the Vetting Committee by their community elders and approved through the criteria process according to the Vetting Committee.
The new parliament expected to elect a new president of Somalia’s Puntland region and his deputy on January 8, 2014.
Puntland undertook similar political process most recently in 2004 and 2008, ahead of presidential elections in 2005 and 2009, respectively.
