Somalia’s Minister of Defence, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, met Thursday with U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Justin Davis to discuss strengthening defence cooperation between the two countries, officials said.
The meeting focused on expanding collaboration in defence and advancing joint efforts to counter militant groups threatening security in Somalia and the wider region.
Both sides also discussed coordinating initiatives aimed at promoting peace and stability, including support for ongoing security sector reforms and cooperation with international partners.
Fiqi expressed appreciation for continued support from the United States to the Somali National Armed Forces, particularly in training, capacity-building and the provision of equipment.
He said the assistance has played an important role in strengthening Somalia’s ability to conduct counter-terrorism operations and improve the country’s overall security capabilities.
