KISMAYO – Somali army forces and African Union soldiers, along with US especial troops have on Friday launched fresh attack on targets held by Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab fighters near the coastal town of Kismayo.
The raid took place Arere area near the town, leaving at least 9 Al Shabaab fighters dead, according to Somali military commander, Abdi Yare.
Yare says the coalition forcs had killed 9 armed fighters belonging to Al Shabaab, who were collection Zakawad taxation.
There was no immediate comment from Al Shabaab over the military claims.
Earlier this month, US especial soldier was killed and four others injured in Al Shabaab ambush and mortar attack near the coastal town of Kismayo.
