MOGADISHU, Somalia – The United States reaffirmed continued support for Somalia after Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre met U.S. chargé d’affaires Justin Davis, officials said.
Officials said the talks focused on strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation, including security and counterterrorism efforts involving Somalia and the United States.
Hamza briefed the envoy on security gains, operations against extremists and efforts to stabilize liberated areas, thanking Washington for training Somali forces.
He stressed removing militants from agricultural regions to boost food security and investment, while the envoy praised political, security and electoral progress.
The envoy reaffirmed U.S. backing for Somalia’s unity, security assistance and humanitarian aid, as both sides discussed drought relief needs nationwide efforts.
