MOGADISHU – Two government soldiers have been shot and killed by gunmen, thought to be Al Shabaab fighters near Somali capital Mogadishu.

The victims, whose names identified as Mohamed Ali and Abdi Dhagol were gunned down by two men armed with pistols while drinking tea at coffee-shop at Arbiska area near Mogadishu.

Hussein Mohamed, a policeman says the victims were local government soldiers, who were in charge of tax collection, adding that the killers had escaped from the crime scene.

“We took bodies of the soldiers, but our soldiers are now conducting an operation relating to the incident”, he said.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the assassination.

But, such orchestrated killings are often carried out by Al Qaeda-linked-Al Shabaab group based in Somalia.

The group vowed to step up its attacks and assassinations against government soldiers in and out of the capital city of Mogadishu.
