MOGADISHU, Somalia – A Somali military court has on Thursday sentenced two men to remain in jail for 15 years over membership of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) group.

The tribunal court convicted the ISIS operatives, Mahad Mohamud Abdi Abu Yasin and Mohamed Daud Dahir Warsame for membership of the group.

The men were found guilty of belonging to ISIS group in Somalia, according to a statement issued by the court on Thursday.

The operatives were arrested in April, after massive operations carried out by Somali security forces in and around Mogadishu.

Somali security officer, Hassan Mohamed says one of the men had been arrested in Afgoye town, while planting a bomb explosive near Mogadishu.

ISIS group’s fighters carried out assassinations targeting police and security officers in Somali capital Mogadisu.

Last month, the group claimed to have killed two soldiers and injured several others in roadside bomb explosion near Ministry of Defense headquarters in Mogadishu.
