Somalia: Suspected US strike hits Al Shabaab

MOGADISHU, Somalia – A suspected US drone strike has carried out an airstrike against al Shabaab militants near Harardhere town in Mudug region of central Somalia.

The strike was conducted in Deqlo area under control of Al Shabaab, a witness said.

He says a loud explosion was heard.

It is unclear how many were killed in the bombing.

The US Africom command has yet commented on the air raid.

So far, the US military conducted 55 airstrikes in 2019 against al Shabaab and Islamic State groups.

The military also carried out 47 airstrikes in 2018 and 35 airstrikes in 2017, according to a statement released by US Africom.
