MOGADISHU, Somalia – UN Security Council has called on the Federal government of Somalia and its state members to “urgently accelerate” progress towards an inclusive political settlement including the agreement on resource and power-sharing and holding popular elections in Somalia.

In a new UN Security Council Resolution 2472 urged Somalia to accelerate security planning for elections, in coordination with AMISOM, UNSOS, and UNSOM, including to allow an inclusive, peaceful, free and fair one-person-one-vote in 2020/2021.

The council expressed grave concern at the humanitarian situation in Somalia and commending AMISOM’s efforts to create conditions conducive to the delivery of humanitarian assistance.

The calls by the UN Security Council comes as state members leadership announced to suspended all relationships with the Federal government of Somalia.
