Somalia: SNA, AMISOM troops push Al shabaab out of key areas
Somali National army (SNA), with the support of Djibouti peacekeepers of African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) contingent have peacefully wrestled full control of two villages in the country’s central Hiiraan region, DC said Thursday.
Mohamed Abdulle Fidow, a district commissioner says that the coalition forces pushed the militants out of key areas, including Burweyn which lies in the outskirts of Jalalaqsi town in central Somalia.
The Djibouti peacekeepers took over the lead of security of Jalalaqsi town in Hiiraan province this week from their Burundian colleagues in the AU mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
The fall of Burweyn area marks the latest blow to AL shabaab militants who have been forced out of swathes of territory over the past 18 months, according to the military sources.
