MOGADISHU – Unknown gunmen have on Sunday evening shot and killed a well-known elder in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu, witness said.
The victim, whose name has been released as Hussein Kulow, was gunned down by hooded men armed with pistols near city’s biggest market, a witness, Gedi Harun said.
He told Mareeg Online that the killers escaped from the crime scene, shortly after the assassination.
Kulow was among delegates, who voted Somali lawmakers from Hirshabelle in 2017 elections, according to relatives.
Tens of Somali security forces arrived at the crime scene and launched an investigation relating to the assassination in Mogadishu.
No arrests had been made over the incident.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the murder in the capital.
But, such assassinations are often carried out by Somali-based group of Al Shabaab, which is battling Western-backed government of Somalia.
