Somalia: New Puntland President to take office on Tuesday

Garowe (Mareeg.com) The newly elect president of Puntland State of Somalia Dr Abdiweli Mohamed Ali Gaas is has officially taken office on Tuesday to start leading the region’s administration for a five years term, Shbelle Radio reports.

Dr Gaas, former Somalia Prime Minister has been elected as the new Puntland president in an election in Garowe on January 8th defeating the former president of the state Abdurahman Farole.

A high level committee was appointed on Sunday to organize the handing over ceremony on Tuesday January 14th.
According to the schedule, the new president will then be inaugurated in a well organized ceremony which officials from the Federal Government of Somalia, delegates from the neighboring countries and international community representatives will attend.
In his first press conference in Garowe this week, president Gaas vowed to bring security as his top priority while pledging to form the first liner cabinet which the women will have a great role.
