Somali Foreign Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi said the government will take strong action against Sivuyile Bam, the acting head of the AU mission in Somalia.
Fiqi accused Bam of supporting Al-Shabab and sending misleading reports to international bodies, including the UN Security Council.
He said Bam claimed Al-Shabab seeks governance and has stopped civilian killings, portraying them in a falsely positive light.
“This man has long been quietly suspected, but now he can no longer hide,” Fiqi said.
He added, “We were silent for a while, but he turned out to be a supporter of Al-Shabab and an enemy of Somalia’s progress.”
Fiqi accused him of spreading false daily reports portraying Somalia as a failed state.
He also claimed the official harbors hatred toward Somali national forces and local militias fighting Al-Shabab.
The Somali government is expected to announce its formal decision regarding Bam’s stay in the country soon.
