MOGADISHU, Somalia – Mass protest against new political alliance is expected to hold in the Somali capital, Mogadishu.

The rally is organized by the mayor of Mogadishu and is sponsored by the Federal government of Somalia after six opposition parties — including Himilo Qaran and UPD parties led by former presidents announced a new political alliance on Tuesday in the capital, Mogadishu.

Reliable sources said the planned protest against the new alliance that was named as Forum for the National Parties would take place in the capital, with heavy security presence.

Mogadishu government is accused of failing to handle the country’s security, federal structure, and of taking its eye off the fight against Al Shabaab, al-Qaida-linked Islamist militants.

Somalia has been wracked by violence and frequent attacks by the armed group al-Shabab.
