MOGADISHU, Somalia – A man and his wife have been shot and killed by gunmen on Friday night in Awdinle town, some 275km southwest of Somalia’s capital Mogadishu.

The deceased man identified as Mukhtar and his wife, whose name has not been released yet, were gunned down near their home in the town, a witness said.

He says the killers fled from the crime scene, shortly after the assassination.

The reason behind for the killing remains unknown.

“Al-Shabab suspects shot and killed a businessman and his wife Friday evening”, he said.

He says government soldiers buy items from their shop, “as I think they were killed on that matter”.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the killing.

The Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab has increased assassinations since the start of Holy month of Ramadan.
