Somalia and Malaysia signed two agreements to strengthen cooperation on digital governance, technical exchange, and cybersecurity development.
Somalia’s National Communications Authority (NCA) signed MOUs with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and CyberSecurity Malaysia on Tuesday.
The MOU with MCMC focuses on 5G regulation, telecom policy exchange, technical cooperation, and short-term training and capacity-building initiatives.
The second MOU, with CyberSecurity Malaysia, covers cyberattack response, threat intelligence sharing, cyber diplomacy, and participation in the Global ACE program.
MCMC Chairman Tan Sri Mohammad Salim bin Fateh Din said the agreement boosts knowledge-sharing and international technical partnerships in telecom governance.
Somalia’s NCA Director General Mustafa Yasin Sheikh said the deal supports digital transformation and skill-building for Somali telecom professionals.
During the cybersecurity MOU ceremony, CyberSecurity Malaysia CEO Dato’ Ts. Dr. Amirudin called the partnership vital for cyber threat resilience.
Mustafa Yasin thanked Malaysian agencies for their expertise and emphasized that international cooperation is key to Somalia’s cybersecurity progress.
The MOU with MCMC was signed by Mustafa Yasin and Chairman Salim, representing both communications authorities at the official ceremony.
The cybersecurity agreement was signed by CyberSecurity Malaysia’s CEO Amirudin and NCA’s Director General Mustafa Yasin Sheikh.
These partnerships reflect Somalia’s push to develop secure, modern digital infrastructure through global cooperation and adherence to international best practices.
