Somalia makes major military reshuffle, amid rising attacks in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU – Somali army command has made a major military reshuffle after four commanders have been moved in a mini-reshuffle, amid rising attacks by Al Shabaab in Mogadishu.

Gen. Abdi Mohamed Hassan (Hijar) who has been military attaché in Saudi Arabia is appointed as the new deputy Cmdr of army.

He replaces Gen. Odawaa Yusuf Rageh, who was appointed to the post just last Augost after being promoted from Lt Col.

Odawaa will be the Commander of ground forces.

Gen. Abdirashid Abdullahi Shire is the new deputy Commander of ground forces.

Meanwhile, Admiral Abbas Amin Ali is appointed as the new Commander of the navy, replacing Admiral Hassan Nur.

The latest reshuffle comes after Al Shabaab carried out similar attacks in Somali capital Mogadishu, leaving dozens dead.
