Somalia has lost $1.5 billion in aid, previously allocated Danab Special Forces, financial institutions, and relief programs.
The U.S. had been a major donor, providing funds for the Danab Special Forces, which are a vital for battling Al Shabab group.
The aid supported Somalia’s financial institutions, infrastructure, and social programs like healthcare and education.
Finance Minister, Bihi Iman said Somalia is now covering the financial gaps left by the aid reduction with its own tax revenue.
Minister Iman said the government is managing challenges while meeting military, institutional, and citizen needs.
“We’re determined to continue our recovery and development despite these hurdles,” he said.
He also emphasized the importance of self-reliance and the role of Somali taxes in supporting national programs.
Somalia’s reliance on its own resources highlights the pressure to stabilize amid security and economic challenges.
