MOGADISHU, Somalia— Somalia has hosted conference of Intellectual Security and combating Extremism sponsored by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

The summit was launched in Mogadishu with the participation of 12 representatives of OIC member states, 30 scientific figures from Muslim countries and 12 Somali clerics and intellectuals.

Deputy Prime Minister, Mahdi Mohamed Gulaid delivered a speech at the two-day conference on April 29-30 on Monday in Mogadishu.

Guleid focused on the tolerance of the Islamic religion and the Somali tradition emanating from peace and stability, noting that violence and terrorism are not attributes known in Somalia.

Somalia says convening of such a conference is a historic achievement that encourages peace efforts to renounce violence, extremism and terrorism with its erroneous, political and social dimensions.
