Somalia hold mini marathon in Mogadishu
MOGADISHU – Somalia has hold mini marathon participated by hundreds of youth in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu.
Somalia’s sports minister Khadija and other officials from olympic committee were present as the race started from KM 4 to Daljirka Dahson in Mogadishu.
Abdinuur Mohamed Garad has become the winner of today’s Mogadishu Mini Marathon.
Garad was born n Hiiraan and brought up in Saylac and now lives in Karan district of Mogadishu.
He says he was very happy to win Mogadishu mini-Marathon.
“I hope to win many more races”, he said.
The running is described as one of the most dangerous tracks in the world.
Mogadishu mini marathon organizers say it was 2nd annual road races held in the capital of Somalia.
The race was held on Friday after Al Shabaab claimed to have carried out suicide attack on restaurant near police academy in Mogadishu, leaving two people dead.
The al Qaeda linked group has been waging insurgency for more than ten years in Somalia.
Insecurity has plagued Somalia since the ouster of President Siad Barre in 1991 sparked two decades of conflict.
Al Qaeda-linked al Shabaab militants carry out frequent bombings and other attacks in Mogadishu in a campaign to topple Somalia’s Western-backed federal government.
