Somalia: Heavy fighting erupts in Kismayo
MOGADISHU, Somalia – Heavy gunfight has flared up on Wednesday in the coastal town of Kismayo, some 500km south of the Somali capital, Mogadishu.
The clash broke out between Jubbaland security forces and armed guards loyal to Abdinasir Seeraar, a political rival of regional leader Ahmed Madobe.
The cause of the skirmish remains unclear.
It is too early to say the exact figure of casualty of the ongoing battle.
The gun battle started as the city was preparing to welcome a high level delegation led by US ambassador to Somalia, Donald Yamamoto with the US Africom command officials.
