This purchase comes as Al-Shabaab intensifies attacks on Somali forces and critical infrastructure.
Reliable sources within the Somali military confirmed the delivery of two drones via Turkey’s A400M airlifter.
The Akıncı drone features an AESA radar, AI, and advanced systems, flying at 40,000 feet for surveillance and counterterrorism.
With 24-hour endurance and a 6,000-kilometer range it enables precision strikes with 2,000-pound bombs on Al-Shabaab.
Many African nations are turning to Turkish drones for security challenges.
Turkish drones have proven effective in Libya, Ukraine, and Nagorno-Karabakh conflicts.
In February, Turkey and Somalia agreed to boost defense and economic ties.
Other African nations, including Libya and Ethiopia, have also acquired the Akıncı.
Turkey’s support for Somalia includes military cooperation and economic assistance.
