Somalia has declared Anna Saleem Högberg, the head of Swedish Development Cooperation, persona non grata.
Högberg, a counsellor and deputy ambassador, has been expelled for allegedly smearing Somalia, according to Global Bar Magazine.
Högberg has served as the head of Swedish aid in Somalia since 2022.
The expulsion appears to be linked to a strained relationship between Högberg and the Somali Prime Minister’s office, the magazine reported.
Neither Somalia nor Sweden has officially commented on Högberg’s expulsion.
Before her posting in Somalia, Högberg held a similar position in Sudan, overseeing Swedish Development Cooperation in Khartoum.
Somalia and Sweden maintain a close relationship, with about 50,000 Somali refugees living in Sweden, many of whom retain strong ties to Somalia.
