Two federal government soldiers were executed on Monday in Lower Shabelle’s Sabiid and Anole after being convicted of assassination.
They planted an explosive device under the bed of their commander, Major Aydid Mohamed Ali, killing him on July 15.
Major Ali commanded the 83rd battalion and was targeted in a plot that involved betrayal by his own soldiers.
The military court found Mohamed Hussein Bule and Adan Isaq Yarow guilty of facilitating the commander’s killing in exchange for money.
Both soldiers admitted to providing critical intelligence to Al Shabab about the 14 October brigade’s movements and military operations.
The court further revealed they intentionally led their unit into dangerous situations to aid the militant group’s attacks.
Somali army chief Odawa Yusuf condemned the betrayal and vowed to execute any soldier caught collaborating with Al Shabab militants.
The execution of these soldiers serves as a stern warning against internal sabotage within Somalia’s federal army ranks.
