Somali President Mohammed Abdullah Faramago received a formal reception by the coup leader, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, where he was received at the Federal Palace. The official reception ceremony was held, the guard of honor was observed and the national peace songs were played.
This is the first visit by Somali President Mohamed Faramago to Egypt at the invitation of Sisi. Faramago was elected President of Somalia on 8 February 2017, following the postponement of the electoral process several times.
In an exclusive statement to “Arab21”, the ambassador of Somalia in Cairo, Abdul Ghani Mohammed, said that the visit is of great importance, and made progress on all levels, and described the visit, which pleased the hearts of Somalis, as “successful”.
The Somali ambassador ruled out the establishment of an Egyptian military base in Somalia, saying: “He did not discuss the establishment of an Egyptian military base in Egypt during the bilateral talks, did not put on the table.”
“The visit will translate into broad work between the two countries in terms of political, security, educational and many areas of cooperation to the fullest extent.”
Egypt has expressed its keenness to strengthen cooperation with Somalia, and the Presidency of the Republic said in a statement, “Arab21”: “The talks touched on ways to enhance various aspects of bilateral relations with the participation of concerned ministers from both sides. , And the steps taken by the central government in an effort to restore security and stability in Somalia and overcome the various challenges facing it, especially the threat of terrorism.
