Somali opposition has declared the collapse of negotiations with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, citing his refusal to reverse recent constitutional changes.
They accused President Mohamud of deviating from the 2012 Constitution and urged a return to the parliamentary system originally agreed upon by all parties.
The opposition demanded the reinstatement of the 2012 Constitution and the holding of inclusive, direct elections within the remaining nine months of the president’s term.
“We also urge the government to halt politicized conflicts in the Gedo region and the ongoing public land evictions in Mogadishu,” the statement read.
They further called for the return of federal member states Puntland and Jubbaland to national talks, as both remain in political dispute with the president.
The opposition reiterated its readiness to continue dialogue focused on national unity, political stability, and the constitutional order in Somalia.
