Somalia: Deadly clash erupts in Mogadishu
MOGADISHU, Somalia – At least one soldier has been killed and three others injured in a gun battle broke out between government soldiers in the Somali capital Mogadishu.
The skirmish flared up in Dharkaynlay district of Mogadishu when two sides within the army clashed, leaving a soldier dead, a witness said.
He says two individuals -one of them an officer, the other an owner of a water-well – had used government soldiers to settle their private dispute over land.
The victims were taken into hospital, he said.
He said the fighting had subsided after other troops had intervened.
There was no immediate comment from police command over the latest fighting in Mogadishu.
Somalia has been without an effective central government since the fall of Mohamed Siad Barre in 1991.
