MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somali armed group al Shabaab says it has carried out deadly bomb and gun attack on Ethiopian troops under African Union mission in Somalia.

The attack took place at road between Bardale and Awdinle when roadside bomb explosion followed by an ambush attack targeted African Union troops.

The group says it had killed 11 soldiers in the attack.

There was no immediate comment from African Union mission over the claims.

Al Shabaab group still holds small rural areas in central and southern Somalia.

The group wants to overthrow the weak UN-backed government in Somalia and impose its own strict interpretation of Islamic law.

It has lost control of many towns and cities to a 22,000-strong African Union force supporting the government
