Somalia has denied Israeli airline Arkia permission to transit its airspace, potentially forcing route changes to Thailand amid rising diplomatic tensions regionally.
The move follows Israel’s formal recognition of Somaliland as an independent state, a decision Somalia strongly rejects and considers a violation internationally.
Ynetnews reported Arkia has not received renewal of its February overflight permit and will reroute flights if approval delayed beyond early February.
El Al said its Thailand flights remain unaffected for now, while Somalia’s aviation authority declined to comment on decision following media inquiries.
