MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has arrived in Azerbaijan’s capital, Baku, following an official invitation.
President Mohamud and his delegation were warmly welcomed by Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan, upon their arrival in Baku.
The national anthems of both countries were played as a guard of honor was also arranged for the visiting delegation.
Following the brief welcoming ceremony, the two leaders held talks on ways to establish bilateral relations between Mogadishu and Baku.
President Mohamud said the meeting had opened a new chapter in Somalia-Azerbaijan relations.
He said both Somalia and Azerbaijan had signed several agreements in education, energy, defense, and governance to deepen their cooperation.
Somalia and Azerbaijan are set to open embassies in Baku and Mogadishu to foster mutual growth and prosperity for both nations and people.
