MOGADISHU, Somalia, –Somalia’s Foreign Minister, Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, met with the Swedish Ambassador to Somalia, Joachim Waern, at the Ministry’s Headquarters to discuss avenues for deepening collaboration between the two nations. Their talks centered on enhancing cooperation in key areas such as security, human rights, and Sweden’s ongoing support for Somalia’s sovereignty.
During the meeting, FM Fiqi highlighted the positive outcomes of the recent Asmara Trilateral talks, which included Somalia, Egypt, and Eritrea. He emphasized their role in fostering regional peace and development, particularly in bolstering Somalia’s military capabilities.
Ambassador Waern commended Somalia’s emerging leadership at the UN Security Council and praised FM Fiqi’s diplomatic initiatives, especially in light of the upcoming third phase of the Ankara talks with Ethiopia. He also acknowledged the significant contributions of the Somali community in Sweden to both nations.
Reiterating Somalia’s commitment to its UN Security Council role, FM Fiqi underscored the country’s focus on vital issues, including climate change, regional stability, and the protection of human rights, particularly for women and children. He reaffirmed Somalia’s dedication to promoting peace and security not only in the Horn of Africa but across the continent.
