Somalia: Al Shabaab carries out attack in Kenyan town
MOGADISHU, Somalia – Heavily armed Al Shabaab gunmen have launched an ambush attack on Safaricom Telecom building in Garissa town, near Kenyan border along Somalia.
Kenyan MP Abdikarim Osman says about 8 Al Shabaab gunmen attacked on Safaricom Telecom Galma-Gala area and then destroyed its mast with bomb explosives.
Hon. Osman says heavy weaponry could be heard.
He says Kenya forces at nearby base had failed to come to foil the attack by Al Shabaab.
No deaths or injuries have been reported over the attack.
The attackers fled shortly after the attack.
Kenyan military officials remained unavailable to comment on the latest attack near its border along Somalia.
Last month, the al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab carried out deadly suicide and gun attack on hotel complex in Kenya’s capital Nairobi, leaving 21 people dead.
