MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somali armed group al Shabaab has executed a 75 years-old man Abshir Mohamed whom it accused of marrying his ex-wife’s daughter.
Mohamed was shot dead by militant group’s firing squad in a public gathering in Toratorow town, but Mohamed denied marrying the mother and daughter.
Toratorow, a town in Lower Shabelle, a region largely under Al-Shabaab control outside the Somali capital Mogadishu.
Mohamed was also accused of eloping with the daughter in a rural area, according to a complaint letter which the daughter’s uncle Hassan Khalif filed to a court runs by al Shabaab.
Al-Shabab, an al-Qaeda-linked group, often carries out punishments including executions, amputations and flogging on people it accuses mostly of espionage, theft and rape.
The militant group is fighting to overthrow the UN backed government Somalia based in Mogadishu.
