Somalia: 1 dead, six injured in bus attack

MOGADISHU – At least one person has been killed and six others injured on board after Somali forces opened heavy gun fire on civilian bus en-route to Somali capital Mogadishu.

The attack took place in Ugunji town as Somali troops backed by US forces fired on the bus carrying vegetables to Mogadishu, according to Action for Women & Children Concern.

The rights group says four of the six victims were in critical condition.

The victims were brought in hospital in Mogadishu.

Somali military officials were unavailable to reach on the phone for comments on the allegation.

But, the incident comes as Somali army forces launched an operation against Al Shabaab.

The al Qaeda linked group was driven out of Mogadishu in 2011, but it still hold large swaths.

The group has been waging insurgency for more than ten years in Somalia.
