Somali, US forces’ raid kill 9 Al Shabaab

MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somali army forces along with US epecial forces carried out joint military offensive against Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab in south west of the country, killing at least 9 militants, according to statement.

In a statement by Ministry of Information said, the coalition forces killed nine Al Shabaab fighters in an operation carried out in Bay region, southwest of Somalia.

The operation was conducted on Friday, 30 November 2018 , according to the statement seen by Mareeg Online.

The statement said, senior Al Shabaab commanders were among those killed in the operation.

There was no immediate comment from Al Shabaab over the claims.

The Al Qaeda inspired group has been waging insurgency for more than ten years in Somalia.

Al Shabaab group has been driven out of many urban areas since 2011 following joint military offensives carried out by African Union forces and Somali National Army forces.

The group still controls territory in rural areas and carries out gun attacks and bombings on military and civilian targets in the war-ravaged nation.
