Somali troops seize Guriel town after brief fighting

MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somali Federal troops have taken control Guricel town in Galgudud region after Ahlu Sunna suffi militia withdrew from their bases.

The troops moved into the town after brief fighting with Ahlu Sunna militias, a local resident said.

He says the suffi militias vacated from their base.

It is 2nd town in central Somalia seized by government troops from the suffi militia within 24 hours as a tension between the two sides escalates.

This comes after Ahlu Sunna militias clashed with government troops in Mataban town on Saturday where seized by the troops.
