Kenyan authorities have arrested 17-year-old Ibrahim Haidar Yusuf, a Somali national, in connection with disrespecting Kenya’s national flag on Sept. 20.

The incident occurred at Nyayo Stadium during a Mogadishu City Club versus Police FC game, where two individuals of Somali origin were caught on camera insulting the flag.

Such acts violate Section 2B of the National Flag Emblem & Names Act, Cap 99, which criminalizes disrespect in speech, writing, or manner.

Somali Ambassador to Kenya, Jabril Abdulle, expressed regret over the incident, apologizing for the actions of the Somali nationals of Somali origin involved at the match.

Authorities continue to search for the second suspect believed to still be within Kenya, urging the public to provide any helpful information.
