MOGADISHU, Somalia — Mahad Mohamed Salad, director of Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency, held meetings with senior U.S. intelligence officials in Washington.
The talks included officials from the CIA and FBI agencies, focusing on strengthening intelligence cooperation and counterterrorism efforts between both nations.
Salad also visited Fort Bragg in North Carolina, where he met a U.S. special forces commander who previously served in Somalia.
The visit shows growing security cooperation between Somalia and the United States, particularly in efforts to combat extremist groups operating there.
U.S. officials were thanked for continued support in security and counterterrorism, which Somali authorities say has contributed to recent operations targeting Al Shabab, an al Qaeda-linked group.
