Somali Special Forces seize Awdhegle town

MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somali Special Forces ‘Danab’ have taken control of Awdhegle town from Al Shabaab after a joint military operation.

Awdhegle is an agricultural-rich town 70km southwest of the Somali capital, Mogadishu.

The town was serving as a key transit point for Al-Shabaab fighters who frequently crossed over from southern regions.

Al-Shabab, an al-Qaeda-linked group, has been fighting for more than ten years to overthrow the weak UN-backed government in Somalia

The group has been fighting against the Somali army and African Union troops for more than ten years.
