Somali Special Forces continue battle for hearts and minds
MOGADISHU, Somalia – The special and well trained forces of Somalia continued the battle for hearts and minds in areas seized from Al-Shabaab near Afgoye town, some 30km south of the capital of Mogadishu.
The especial troops distributed more food in Sabiid and Anole ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.
Sabid is an area lies some 40km south of Somali capital Mogadishu.
The donation comes two weeks after the Somali special forces seized the area from al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab.
Al-Shabab, an al-Qaeda-linked group, has been fighting for more than ten years in Somalia.
The group wants to overthrow the weak UN-backed government in Somalia and impose its own strict interpretation of Islamic law.
It has lost control of many towns and cities to a 22,000-strong African Union force supporting the government.
But the group still has a strong presence in many rural area.
