Somali soldiers ambushed by Al Shabaab
MOGADISHU, Somalia – A heavy fighting broke out between Somali army troops and Al Shabaab militants near Hudur town of Bakol region in the southwest of Somalia.
The battle flared when heavily armed militants carried out an ambush attack on army base manned by the military forces near the town, a witness said.
He says heavy and slight weaponry could be heard.
The military forces repulsed the attack, says a Somali military official, who asked to be anonymous, because, he was unauthorized to speak on media.
He added no soldier was killed or injured in the skirmish.
There was no comment from Al Shabaab over the fighting.
Al Shabaab, an al Qaeda affiliate that wants topple the weak-western backed government based in Mogadishu.
The group has been waging insurgency for more than ten years in Somalia.
