MOGADISHU, Somalia – A Somali soldier was sentenced to death on Wednesday for killing his police colleague exactly a year ago in the capital, Mogadishu.

The country’s military court sentenced Omar Abdulkadir Sheikh Nour Hussein after he convicted of killing a police soldier identified as Jamal Aboukar Jinow in March 2018.

The court’s statement said Hussein pleaded guilty of murdering Jinow in broad-day-light while the deceased was trying to stop Hussein from committing robbery.

Last month, a Somali soldier Mohamed Ibrahim was sentenced to death for killing a civilian man in Baladweyne town, some 300km north of the capital, Mogadishu.

Death sentences have been carried out increasingly often in the unstable Horn of the African nation in recent years.
