Somali soldier arrested for civilian killing in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU— Somali police forces have arrested a soldier, who shot and killed a civilian man and injured another one earlier on Wednesday in Mogadishu.

The suspected soldier, who was on loose has been detained after he allegedly shot dead a rickshaw driver and wounded another man over unknown reason.

The incident took place at Turbunka junction in the capital of Mogadishu.

Somali police spokeswoman, Zakio Hussein, says the suspected had been taken into police station for further interrogations.

“We will never allow our soldiers to commit such actions”, she said.

Hussein says the detainee would be brought into court to face justice.

Somalia has been without an effective central government since the fall of Mohamed Siad Barre in 1991.
