MOGADISHU – Mareeg.com-Somali intelligence officer and his bodyguard have been
shot dead by Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab gunmen in the capital of
Mogadishu.
The officer, whose name has been released as Ahmed Nour and his
bodyguard were gunned down by men armed with pistols at Lafweine hotel
at Yaqshid area in the capital, a witness, Hassan Mohamed said.
Mohamed says the killers fled from the crime scene.
Somali police soldiers, who arrived at crime scene started operations
to hunt down the killers, but no arrests have been reported.
The deadliest militant group of Al Shabaab in Africa claimed to have
been responsible for the assassination.
The group says its assassins shot and killed a Somali intelligence
officer and his bodyguard in Yaqshid neighborhood in Mogadishu.
The Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab carried out similar attacks in the
capital for the past months.
The group, which once controlled much of Mogadishu capital in 2011,
wants to topple the weak-western backed government of Somalia.
