Somali President visits Qatar for security, economic talks

MOGADISHU, Somalia — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Qatar on Friday for talks on security ties, officials said there.

He was welcomed in Doha for a high-level working visit including meetings with senior Qatari officials focused on political cooperation and stability.

The presidency said the trip is part of visits aimed at strengthening cooperation, advancing national interests, and protecting Somalia’s unity and independence.

The visit comes as Somalia seeks foreign investment and security support while battling al-Shabab amid complex regional political and security dynamics challenges.
