MOGADISHU, Somalia — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is expected to travel to Algeria following an official invitation from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
Officials in Mogadishu said President Mohamud and Algerian counterpart Tebboune will discuss defense, education, trade, and regional security cooperation.
The visit follows August talks between Somali Foreign Minister Abdisalam Dhayeh and Algeria’s Ahmed Attaf, who agreed to form a joint ministerial cooperation committee.
Somalia and Algeria recently renewed diplomatic ties. Mogadishu reopened its embassy in Algiers last year, and Ambassador Yusuf Hassan Ahmed presented credentials in April.
President Mohamud’s planned Algeria visit comes shortly after his trip to Egypt, where he met President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi on regional cooperation.
