MOGADISHU, Somalia – A high-level delegation led by Somali president Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed will traveling into Russia after an official invitation.
Mr. Mohamed will attend first Africa-Russia summit hosted President Vladimir Putin in the Black Sea resort of Sochi next week.
Some 35 African leaders are also expected attend the meeting that will take place in Sochi next Wednesday and Thursday.
Moscow wants to bolster its relations with other African countries.
President Mohamed is scheduled to meet with Russian leaders to discuss diplomatic relations and other issues, amid ongoing fighting against al Shabaab, an al Qaeda linked group.
He will also meet other African leaders on the sideline on the summit, according to sources at Villa Somalia.
This will be the first visit paid by Somali president Mohamed since he took office in February 2017.
