Somali president seeks lawmakers to approve his new PM

New Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed Farmaajo, will Wednesday ask  both Somali Houses for approval on his Premier Hassan Ali Khaire as he seeks a speedy formation of new government to address immediate challenges such as the ongoing famine, which Tuesday the president declared as national disaster.

The President is expected to address a joint seating of lower and upper houses of Parliament ahead of the debate on the PM pick by the Lower House.

There is security lockdown in Somali capital as Major roads including main Mogadishu, road Maka al-Mukarama will remain closed until Wednesday afternoon. Security forces from federal government and Banadir regional administration are taking part

Article 69 (2) of the Provisional Constitution mandates the Lower House of Parliament to debate and pass a vote on the new PM with a simple majority vote (50+1) required to endorse the President’s choice.

If the parliament approve he will build his cabinet within 15 days

Somali president Farmajo, called Somali mps to approve his new prime minister after he returned three day official visit to Saudi Arabia which was his first overseas trip since Somali parliament elected him to become Somalis next four year president.

Abdifatah Ibrahim a Federal Mp told Mareeg media over the phone that the parliament will likely to approve new Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire.

Khaire was a former british oil explorer Soma Oil and Gas Chief executive officer CEO and shareholder.

Khaire was born 1968 in Somalis central region of Galgadud, he is Somali-Norwegian citizen who worked Norwegian Refugee Council NRC as regional director
