Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has departed for Egypt to meet President El-Sisi in Alamein for key regional and security discussions.
The leaders will focus on Red Sea maritime security, amid rising tensions and foreign military buildup threatening vital shipping routes and regional trade stability.
They will also discuss the Horn of Africa crisis, including political unrest, climate shocks, and growing humanitarian needs across Somalia, Sudan, and neighboring states.
Another priority is Egypt’s delayed role in the African Union mission in Somalia, a point of concern for Mogadishu and AU member states alike.
Meanwhile, Burundi’s troop withdrawal from the AU mission has been delayed six months due to funding shortages and setbacks in the planned transition timeline.
Somalia hopes the talks will boost cooperation, revive Egypt’s regional engagement, and attract support for stability and peace in the Horn of Africa.
