Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Cairo on Friday to attend the official opening of Egypt’s new Grand Museum.
President Mohamud was warmly received by Egyptian officials upon arrival. He will join in other is African leaders to attend Grand Egyptian Museum inauguration.
While in Cairo, he is expected to meet Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to discuss regional security and economic cooperation efforts.
Talks are likely to include Egypt’s participation in the African Union Support Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), to which Egyptian troops will contribute.
Last year, Somalia and Egypt deepened diplomatic engagement following Cairo’s backing of Mogadishu amid tensions with Ethiopia over Red Sea access.
