MOGADISHU, Somalia — President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has reportedly allowed both Jubaland and Puntland to bring security personnel with weapons into the capital, Mogadishu.

This comes a day after Somalia’s aviation authorities blocked planes carrying troops and advance teams for Puntland and Jubaland from landing in Mogadishu.

The flights involved personnel for Puntland President Said Deni and Jubaland President Ahmed Madobe, amid tensions.

Deni and Madobe are expected to join opposition leaders in talks with Mohamud seeking consensus on elections, sources said.

Mohamud is pushing unified direct elections, while opposition rejects his reforms and demands a return to Somalia’s indirect electoral model system.

The dispute intensifies as Mohamud enters his final three months in office, raising urgency to resolve the political impasse before elections loom.
